Tips on How to Clean Your Can You Handlebar Beard Oil Brush®
Our Can You Handlebar Beard Oil Brush®has long been a favorite with our customers. It is sized perfectly to fit right into your tin of Beard Dry Oil to allow for a no-mess, "hands-free" application, and works great with our traditional beard oils as well. From time to time, excess product necessitates a cleaning of the brush, so here's a quick guide on how to clean your Can You Handlebar Beard Oil Brush®.
Gently hand wash the bristles in warm water with a mild dish soap. Work your fingers all through the bristles to remove all excess product;
Rinse the bristles thoroughly to ensure that both the excess product and any remaining dish soap is removed;
Hold the brush in one hand and brush the palm of your other hand with a repetitive up and down motion - this will help shake off excess moisture;
Leave the brush to dry, bristle down, on a counter or other non-porous surface. Be sure to not place the brush in its tin unless the brush is completely dry.
As your beard gains character, so will your brush. It's not uncommon for a patina to develop on the wooden handle as you continue to use your brush. With proper care, your Can You Handlebar Beard Oil Brush® can last as long as your beard.
(Update May 2018) Our new video "How To Use a Beard Oil Brush" shows you how to apply beard balm and beard oil with the Can You Handlebar Beard Oil Brush® as well as tips on how to care for the brush so it lasts at least as long as your beard. You can view the video below or enjoy the same 'how to' guide in a blog post format with easily-followed GIFs and some additional information. Feel free to read along here.

I’d be happy to send a replacement brush out to you. Could you please shoot us an email at [email protected] so we can get you taken care of?
So sorry again about this! Thanks for giving us a chance to make things right.

Hey Paul,
Great to hear you got your Beard Oil Brush and Dry Oil! Let us know how you like them once you’ve had a chance to try them out.
Great question!
If you’re applying the Dry Oil daily or several times a week using the Beard Oil Brush then I’d recommend cleaning the brush every three months or so. This will help keep it fresh and minimize any build up. Of course if you find you need to clean it more or less often, make that adjustment :)
Cheers,
Tim

Hey Matt,
Tim here again. Thanks for your patience while I checked on where the horsehair for the Beard Oil Brush comes from. For the brushes, our supplier told me that the hair is clipped from either the mane or the tail. I would assume that this is done during routine grooming because I can’t see people raising and keeping horses just to harvest their hair. It would be a terrible business model :)
Let me know if I can help with anything else, ok?
Enjoy your day!

Hey Matt,
Tim here. Thanks for checking on the horse hair we use for the Beard Oil Brush. I’m checking with the fellas as I’m not actually sure. I would be shocked if there was any cruelty or bad ethics involved! I’ll get back to you as soon as I have more info.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi! There is no information of the source of the horse hair used in the brush. Is it collected cruelty free? Maybe from the regular grooming of the horses? Maybe something else? I really like the brush but would first like to make sure Of that. Thank you!

Hey Nick,
So sorry to hear about the troubles with the Beard Oil Brush! That’s definitely not good to have your girlfriend not want to get near you. The brush is made with real horse hair so can have a bit of a horse smell sometimes. Using a scented oil and washing usually helps. Could you shoot us an email at [email protected] so we can get you taken care of? For now I’d recommend just applying the beard oil by hand so you can be close to your girlfriend again. :D
Cheers,
Tim

I’m having some difficulty. I’ve used the rich twice and my girlfriend really disliked the smell of my beard after purchasing oil and brush from a dealer. The next day, I’ve narrowed down the smell is coming from the brush and not the unscented oil. I’ve followed the cleaning instructions but the awful smell persists. I am very unsatisfied with this purchase at the moment. So far I’ve washed and dried according to instructions half a dozen times and still smells like… not sure how to describe the stench that keeps my girlfriend at two arm’s length… but it’s not good.

Hey Ali,
Thanks for checking on that smell. The Beard Oil Brush is made with wood and horse hair so there can be a bit of a smell. Since it is natural there isn’t a lot that can be done. One idea would be to use the Beard Oil Brush to apply some of our scented oils. This will make the brush smell more like our oils and less like the horse hair. Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Tim
